Macular Degeneration is the leading cause of vision loss. Macular
Degeneration is caused by the deterioration of the central portion of the
retina, the inside back layer of the eye that records the images we see and
sends them via the optic nerve from the eye to the brain. With proper Macular Degeneration
Supplement and diet, you can prevent Macular Degeneration or cure it
completely. Here are few supplements that you need to intake:
Ø
Multivitamins
Taking proper vitamins and minerals can prove to be a good
idea to prevent or cure Macular Degeneration. It is difficult to obtain all the nutrients from
the everyday diet alone, so older people in particular should intake few extra
vitamins. Beta-carotene, Vitamin E, Vitamin B12, Fish oil and other such
vitamins prevent and cure Macular Degeneration. Ask your doctor for advice
about which supplements might work best for you based on your specific health
needs.
Ø
AREDS Supplements
The AREDS has found out that by in taking high levels of
antioxidants and zinc, you can reduce the risk of developing advanced
age-related macular degeneration or AMD up to 25 percent. Nutritional Macular Degeneration supplements
can slow the progression of AMD among people with early and transitional stages
of macular degeneration.
Ø
Greens
Antioxidants protect against oxidation, which is a part of
the process of AMD. Consumption of plenty of dark, leafy greens may help with
macular degeneration prevention. People who consumed the most vegetables which
are rich in carotenoids, i.e.; lutein and zeaxanthin and other critical
antioxidants had a 43 percent lower risk of AMD than those who ate these foods
the least. Carotenoid rich vegetables include dark, leafy vegetables,
especially raw spinach, kale and collard greens. Eat 5 to 9 servings per day.
While this may sound like a lot, a serving is really only half cup of most
foods or one cup of leafy greens.
Ø
Fish
People who eat fish 2-3 times a week have a lower risk for
AMD. Research also has shown the benefits of eating fish for macular degeneration
prevention. Eating fish may help prevent macular degeneration. Fish contain omega-3 which seems to be a
critical nutrient for the heart and eyes. The best fish are either wild salmon
or small fish like sardines. Other fishes include herring, mackerel, anchovies
and rainbow trout. If you cannot tolerate the smell of the fish or do not obtain
it easily, then switching to omega-3 supplement is a good substitute. Fish oil
capsules are widely available. Studies found out that just by eating one
serving of fish every week, some of which are good sources of omega-3 fats, cut
the risk of macular degeneration up to 30 percent.
